Part of the work to create a bioregional learning ecosystem is to focus on the educational initiatives in a territory that contribute to its overall health and well-being. Here in Barichara, we have been prototyping a Regenerative Education Fund to support this learning ecosystem for our territory.
In the graphic above, you can see all of the initiatives and their current levels of investment. The reddish color indicates what we still need to raise in order to continue through the end of 2025. We need to raise $200,000 in total to complete the purchase of a strategic piece of land, build a community school on the land, and support ongoing reforestation and education work at two learning sites -- Bioparque Móncora and the nature reserve Origen del Agua.
Also displayed is our success at mobilizing support so far. In total we have raised $300,000 to cover two years of operations for the school Sueños del Bosque, one full year of work at Origen del Agua, the purchase of a learning center called Totumo, and a $60,000 investment in the land that will become the new school. We are holding a tapestry of efforts in a collaborative framework with multiple field sites, ongoing ecosystem restoration, and a diversity of regenerative education programs.
Two months ago, I wrote about this learning ecosystem and why we needed to raise money for its second year. You can read about it here. We have made significant progress between then and now with a $65,000 donation to cover the second year of operations for Sueños del Bosque and a $60,000 donations by my partner Penny and myself to begin the purchase of the land known as Las Ruinas.
Now we have a year to raise an additional $90,000 to complete the purchase of Las Ruinas (along with an additional $50,000 to build the school -- for a total of $140,000). And we will need to cover the remainder of operating costs for Origen del Agua and Bioparque Móncora in 2025. This adds an additional $60,000 to reach the $200,000 total that we lack at the moment.
As we do this work, we are gaining momentum and showcasing what we are doing in the Design School for Regenerating Earth and through a network of territorial foundations in Colombia as part of the Northern Andes Regeneration Fund. In this way, Barichara is fully weaving itself into the story of the Earth Regeneration Fund that partners with other bioregions around the world.
Please consider making a donation to help us raise the rest of what we need for our learning ecosystem in Barichara. We appreciate all of your support!
Onward, fellow humans.
